Effect of ecoregion and river type on neotropical Chironomidae (Diptera) from humid mountain to semiarid lowland

چکیده

Introduction: Chironomidae (Diptera) is the most widespread and abundant aquatic insect family in freshwater ecosystems. Chironomids are considered good indicators of water quality but seldom identified at genus level broad spatial scale studies. Objective: To identify environmental conditions associated with chironomids an altitudinal gradient. Methods: We compared ecoregions, river types, seasons, for neotropical streams rivers (18 sites; 2014-2018; Yungas rainforest Western Chaco dry forest, Argentina). used non-metric multidimensional scaling, dissimilarity, envfit analysis rank-abundance curves. Results: Chironomic “assemblages” matched both ecoregions types. However, presented a better fit species composition. The stenothermal taxa Orthocladiinae were dominant high elevations eurythermal Chironominae lowland rivers. Altitude, temperature conductivity important. Seasonal differences smaller than ecoregional differences. Conclusions: Ecoregions, altitude, correlated chironomid communities.

Longitudinal distribution of Chironomidae (Diptera) downstream from a dam in a neotropical river.

The damming of a river causes dangerous consequences on structure of the environment downstream of the dam, modifying the sediment composition, which impose major adjustments in longitudinal distribution of benthic community. The construction of Engenheiro Sérgio Motta Dam in the Upper Paraná River has caused impacts on the aquatic communities, which are not yet fully known. This work aimed to ...

Neotropical Ablabesmyia Johannsen (Diptera: Chironomidae, Tanypodinae)-part I.

This is a series of three manuscripts about the genus Ablabesmyia. In the first new species are described, three species are re-examined and keys to males, pupae and larvae of known neotropical species are provided and an emended generic diagnosis of Ablabesmyia is given. The second manuscript will analyze the molecular data of Neotropical species and the third one will check, through a phyloge...
